Country
blues guitarist like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf
the classic greats came to Chicago to look for work in the
50's.
In the bars Theresa's, The Checkerbaord Lounge, The Blue
Flame,
south side clubs they played at with acoustic guitars. On
friday
nite when everyone got off workthe audience or crowd was
so
loud the band could not be heard. Thus they were "Fired"
- no one
could hear them ! Electric guitars and Fender amps were
puchased
at "Maxwell St." known for the
pawnshops and great "bargains".
Still they treated the instruments like acoustic instruments
so the same
results"You're fired" again ! Now in frustration
they turned all the
amplifer knobs on"10" and blasted away. New result
! They were hired
back with a raise. The sound was refined and "Chicago
Style Hard Blues"
was born.
The following backing track sounds like Texas style and
it is but ! In the
60's a radio staion" WVON "broadcasting
from the "Hancock" towers
in Chicago made it's signal on Saturday night 12:00 midnight
till 8:00 am
to Dallas, TX.
