Beginner Lesson 1

Reading Tab

Tabulature is the full name for "tab". WE DO NOT READ NOTES. Instead numbers for the frets
are on the line representing the strings"- Reading Standard Notation

The top 5 lines are written music in Treble Clef and follow left to right
with the corresponding notes. They will sit on top of the TAB numbers for the frets.

The bold numbers in the red box show you the fingers on the neck.
1 st = index finger
2 nd = middle finger
3 rd = ring finger
4 th = pinky finger
You will not see this on Tabs. This is only for this example to get you going.

READING TAB - Reading Tabulature
The lines on the bottom going left to right represent the 6 strings on your guitar.
String names are;

1st line = High E string
2nd line = B string
3rd line = G string
4th line = D string
5th line = A string
6th line = Low E string

The top line or 1st line is your highest pitched string, The High E string.
The bottom line or 6th string is your lowest pitched string, The Low E string.
The number on the string line represents which fret on the fingerboard you play.

The numbers on the string lines are the frets. The metal bars on the fingerboard
0 =
Open string, no finger is used.
1 to 24
= The number of the fret.

So this first exersize pattern played on the first string. Then continued to every string
one at a time. Here is the pattern.

0 or open string, no finger is used.
1 or
1st fret the note with your index finger.

2 or
2nd fret the note with your middle finger.

3 or 3rd fret the note with your ring finger.
4 or
4th fret the note with your pinky finger.

Use a guitar pick to start !

Download the Tab Lesson "Beginners Warm Up Jam"
in PDF format and play this pattern it on all 6 strings.
